About the aircraft:
The Yak-11 is a Soviet two-seater training aircraft from the 1940s. It is a low-wing aircraft with a metal structure, powered by an ASz-21 radial engine. Developed at the Yakovlev design bureau on the basis of the Yak-3UTI, the prototype flew in 1945, and serial production continued until 1955. A licensed version, the C-11, was produced in Czechoslovakia by Let Kunovice from 1953 and was exported to Poland, among other countries.

About the copy:
One of the C-11s delivered to Poland in 1955. It served in the OSL Dęblin for advanced pilot training. Here, it is configured with training bombs for training fighter pilots. The model shown has a paint scheme based on photographs from "Sto lat polskich skrzydeł nr. 59 - Jak-11" (A Hundred Years of Polish Wings No. 59 - Yak-11), pp. 30 and 31.

About the model:
The MikroMir set includes a decent model of the Yak-11 (C-11), although there are some inconsistencies. There isn't much flash, and the parts fit quite well after cleaning. I hardly used any filler on the model (someone will surely write "you can see that" ? ).

The closed engine shutters at the propeller (and at the same time the suggestion of open exhausts on the sides) left me feeling a little unsatisfied, so I decided to practise 3D design. I designed a replacement for part 9 (shutters), but since the decision was made only after parts 6 (ring) and 9 (shutters) had been glued together, separating them resulted in the ring breaking, so I ended up designing an equivalent for both parts together. To prevent the engine compartment from looking empty, I designed a simplified model of the ASz-21 engine (7-cylinder radial engine).

If anyone is interested, I have uploaded these parts to the Cults server
cults3d.com/en/3d-mo..shutters-blinds-1-72
(and I must admit that, considering that this model is more popular than UT-2, I have set a prohibitive price of €1 for it 😄 ).

Later, I struggled with the issue of bomb ejectors (they are not included in the kit, they are included in the RS Models kit, and what is worse, they were on the Polish C-11s). For lack of better plans, I relied on photographs and decided to make something that at least vaguely resembles the original. I had already designed the P-50 bombs earlier, but I wasn't happy with that design, so... I redesigned them from scratch.

Initially, I planned to use Yahu Models boards dedicated to the RS Models model, but in the end I decided that the MikroMir boards weren't so bad 🙂 (and they fit better). I also modified the sight a little (the kit does not include a transparent lens, only grey plastic).
At the end I also added some small details such as landing gear indicators, position lights and an antenna under the fuselage.

That's all for now – feel free to visit the gallery and leave your comments 🙂
