M60A1 RISE with Dozer Blade

I decided on building the RISE option because it offers more visual interest. This entails installing the passive armour blocks and me working with shading techniques. There are several optional parts available. Be on the lookout for the "Passive Armor" directions in the instructions.
I plan to follow the instructions and assemble the kit out the box in a logical order: 1. Lower hull; 2. Upper hull; 3. Turret; 4. Dozer blade.

Specific attention should be given to which parts to be used on the specific variant.
Consider drilling out or enlarge the locations where small parts will be attached.

Attaching the dozer blade is made difficult by the fact that there is little to no positive attachment points. In hindsight, I should have created better attachment points by drilling holes and attaching the sub-assemblies using styrene rod.

The Academy kit is missing all the hydraulics for the doser blade. Are you planning to add those?
1  16 July 2025, 16:07
Villiers de Vos Auteur
Erik, I did not plan on it. The reference photographs that I have does not show much. I will certainly dig some more.

Takoms M60A1 instructions shows the hydraulic lines and reservoir pretty good. scalemates.com/products/img/5/8/6/1351586-39-instructions.pdf

There are also photos and drawings from the technical manual in Book: M60 A3 (by François Verlinden)

There is an online version of the TM for the blade here: operatormanuals.tpub.com/TM-9-2590-209-14-P/ (that site is fairly slow to load, though). On a quick browse, it looks like you mainly want to look at chapter 9, but many of the other figures will probably also come in handy.

Geoff, thank you for your kind words.
Erik, thank you for the simplified version and Jakko, thank you for the detailed version. I wish I had access earlier to the operator's manual. The drawings in chapter 9 makes adding the hydraulic details doable.
I have started the weathering process and will decide on the modification this weekend. Again, thank you very much for your help.

The basic shape of the small diorama (my first attempt) has been completed. Ready for sand and dust. In the background I have been working on the ancillary items and figures.

Gentlemen, I am humbled by your remarks. Especially coming from the modelers of your calibre.

This model is declared finished. Thanks to everybody who checked in and showed interest and made constructive comments and compliments.

Some parting thoughts: The tank itself did not pose any challenges. Assembling and attaching the dozer blade was finicky. Attaching the raised armour also was made difficult because there is no positive attachment points. The diorama was a first for me, and I am happy with the outcome.

Thank you Nathan. I would like to recommend though that you have a look at the technical manual also as suggested by Erik Torp and Jakko. Adding the hydraulics for the blade would have been a nice addition.
