With these pictures, I begin my contribution to the great Hasegawa/Eduard P-47 'Dottie Mae'! My house is located a few kilometres away from Lake Traunsee, where the 'Dottie Mae' has been resting since its fatal crash in May 1945 – so you could say this is a project with a special connection!

You take good advantage of the big scale so the details looks fantastic so far 👍
I hope you'll add the girl on the wing?! You can find her here: dersockelshop.de/Dottie-Pinup-Girl-1-32.html

That's very kind praise—thank you, mates! Well, I'm still working on how getting this femininity past the other feminities in my household 🙂

Welcome, Guido!
Slowly but surely, the pieces are coming together. The Hasegawa basic kit is already a joy—and the Eduard extras really add to the fun.

Now the 'Dottie Mae' project is picking up speed again. The pictures are no longer entirely up to date: the red has now been covered and the P-47 has been completely covered in black in preparation for the metallic colours.
I plan to use the stencil templates from 1 Man Army for the first time and am already excited to see how it goes – have you tried them yet?

Very nice progress. Booking my seat to see how your paint work moves along.

Thank you both—you're welcome!
I'm currently applying the metallic tones to the black base coat.

Most of the Alclad metal colours have now been applied, so I have been able to remove the masks. You can also see the black and red areas on the tail, which I have now been able to unmask as well.
The next step will be interesting: I'm going to try out the stencil templates from '1 Man Army' to see how I get on with them!

Alclad-eating monster! The results with those masks will look fantastic!

Thank you for your encouraging feedback!
I've now tried out the 1 Man Army stencils on the undersides and I have to say: it's going to be really cool! Pictures will follow soon 🙂

My instant reaction was: bl**dy h*ll, where did all that yellow go... !?
And then I noticed the masking on the nose... 😄
The different metallic shades are looking really nice!

A few pictures of my experiment with "1 Man Army" masks. They are easy to use and, in my opinion, produce a nice result. I used "Tire Black" from Gunze, as a completely black color would not have looked authentic.

There are a few more pictures: today, the remaining markings were applied—most of them are decals.

The Dottie Mae is nearing completion: the final gloss level has been achieved, and now there are just a few final touch-ups to do. Window cleaning is the main task at hand! Water with a little dishwashing liquid added is my method of choice.

I love the cockpit and the engine, but the whole thing is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing it fully complete.

I would like to show you a few final pictures of this project: the 'Dottie Mae', sunk on 8 May 1945, the last day of the war in Europe, in Lake Traunsee near the town of Ebensee in Upper Austria.
A formation of 20 P-47s from the 511th Fighter Squadron was intended to boost the morale of the inmates of the recently liberated Ebensee concentration camp with a low-level flypast. 2nd Lt. Henry Mohr Jr., the pilot of the 'Dottie Mae', had touched the water surface with the propeller tips during the low-level flight and crashed into the water. He was able to save himself, but the aircraft sank and remained relatively well preserved on the lake bed for decades until it was raised in 2005 and restored to flying condition. An incredible story that particularly touches me, as Ebensee is close to where I live.
