The gallery is also open here at the second 'Silver Bird'! This time, I would like to design a fictional machine that was tested at NACA in the USA in the late 1940s... The dominant colours: black on the underside, white on the upper sides.

The 'NACA orbital glider' known as the X-3 Project 'Pegasus' is slowly taking shape. I want to give it a look that is typical of the era... It won't be long now until it's finished.

That is looking very good indeed 👍🏻
I've just read about the Silbervogel project, and found the design fascinating, yet more like the aerospace projects from the 50's and 60's as they were done in the US. Your finish reflects this in a great way.

Excellent! May I ask what brand of white do you use ? I struggle with that color. Thanks

Thank you for your feedback—it is very appreciated!
White paint is never easy to apply, I agree. I use Gunze acrylic paints, and it is important to apply matte white first—this provides better coverage—followed by a coat of glossy white.

Hello mates, what is probably the last project of this year has come to an end: this hypothetical adaptation of Eugen Sänger's orbital glider, this time built from Takom molds, now stands on its own wheels—and has freed up a whole lot of space on the workbench. This atmospheric jumper is not exactly small!

It was an astonishingly innovative concept for its time—the late 1930s/1940s. There was serious interest from various quarters, with the Soviets coming closest to realizing it with their "Keldysh Silver Bird." After building this variant as well, I'm showing a comparison with two final pictures. The NACA Sänger presented here shows my interpretation of a possible "X-plane" based on Sänger's plans: one of the three machines of the X-3 "Pegasus" project, tested in the late 1940s/early 1950s 🙂
