Welcome CaptGPF.
While waiting for my compressor to be returned, I decided to start with a new project.

The turret's construction is nearing completion. Deciphering the instructions can be like a treasure hunt.

Wow, I didn't think anybody would bother building one of these anymore 🙂 Are you correcting the kit's many faults, or just having fun building it straight from the box?
3 January, 11:38
@Jakko, this kit has been in my stash since 1991. I will mostly build straight from the box. Plan to add the fuel lines and use aftermarket tracks.

1991 😮 that was the year l built my first model on my own at 14yrs.
Built it then just put decals on it no paint..🤣
Looking good.... Not all instructions created equal 🙄 sometimes l will look up instructions for similar kits to find clue's in unsure.

Wow, this kit sounds like a true challenge, at least compared to modern day products.
But you seem to be well prepared for the challenge! 👍

That's around when I built one of these (not sure it was exactly the same kit) myself 🙂 I corrected it to some extent following an article by Bruce Crosby in Military Modelling from back then, but if you're building this as a kind of nostalgia build then going more or less straight from the box sound like a better plan.

It is primarily intended to be an exercise in making it a fair representation, painting a monochromatic finish and weathering.

Construction has been completed. Awaiting my compressor. My impressions so far:
First impressions
Not a high part count.
Contemporary subject based on the war in Ukraine. Both sides are using the tank.
Able to build a simple representation of the external fuel lines.
A good Youtube build log can be found at: Youtube Video
Assembling the MiniArt tracks are enhancing the model. The track pins are not long enough. The track blocks must be extensively cleaned up to fit properly.
In its day this was one of the best kits on the market.
Instructions are notoriously vague. If you like the investigative part, this is the model for you. Instructions are vague and mounting points are few. Work in a systematic way to eliminate parts. I liked the challenge.

Well, yes — if your only competition consists of Esci kits, it's not THAT hard to have better detail 😉

Your attention to detail is very satisfying to see; the photo of step 6 will give me nightmares! It looks great so far! 👍

Thank you Clair. Much appreciated. Before the clear coat, I might add a different tint of Russian green to add to the distressed effcts.

That pre-highlighting paid off, the resulting paint job is perfect.

Thank you Dexi and Jennifer for you kind words.
Jennifer, the pigment coverage of the Mr. Hobby Russian Green obliterated my pre shading efforts 🙂 . I am now trying to see if I can bring it back using the AK Russian green shades (I have some that I need to use rather than throw away). If that fails, I will just add some white to the Mr. Hobby Green. It is all in the fun trying out something new 🙂

Nothing wrong with your eyes. The brownish highlights was brought about by using Mig Jimenez Acrylic Paints Russian Green Base A.MIG-932 as a highlight. I am still trying to add some lighter green tones now that the paint has fully dried.

Post shading completed. I am happier with the effect. Next detail painting will start.

Thank you Mr D. Much appreciated.
I hope to publish another update this weekend.

I am happy with the outcome so far. The decals went on without a problem. The numbers provided on the sheet provide many options. While the clear coat dries, I am changing gears and will be working on the tracks.

Hi Villiers 👋 well done.... Great build, Fantastic job, enjoyed watching the build " quite a lot of work.....but turned out great 👏👍

The tracks are ready to be placed on the tank. The details on the MiniArt track are exquisite. The track pins are too short and makes it a chore to assemble.

Looks tricky? Tracks turned out great. . Bit of rust showing. Been nice project to follow....a lot of work but coming along really well 👏👍
