I do not want to build an interior. Those old kits are like they are. But maybe it is better to paint the inside in "Dark black", so one can really not see anything?

You can see very little through a 1:72 scale canopy anyway, so I think I'd just paint it in whichever colour the cockpit had and put a seat and pilot in to obscure the view of the rest of the cockpit.

To check, I just looked at my D. 520 model, from RS, which has much more cockpit detail than the Heller kit (and no pilot). It's hard to see most of what's inside.

I have to adjust the canopy to the fuselage for propper fitting. It took me 4 rounds of correction but the masks are almost done. While looking at the photos right now I saw some little things I have to correct.
Playing with the scan'n'cut is fun!

Nice! This old Heller kit was my "comeback" last year. I made mistakes but still enjoyed it. You are doing a really nice job.

Those old decals didn't work anymore. At first it seemd it will be ok, but after 3 or 4 layers of MicroSet you can see the disaster. In addition, they didn't lay flat anymore, they were wrinkled and crumpled.

But can I remove them?
First attempt: 1 hour in water, then dishwashing liquid and rubbing with soft tissue removed the roundels on one wing.
Second attempt: Soaking the plane under water for the whole day of work - 11 hours. And the decals floated away. I will go this way and remove all decals in the next days.

A good effort with the decals. Which new ones did you order? Oh it's OK, Berna I see. I'm glad it wasn't the Print Scale set. They fell apart for me.

All decals are removed, BUT: Being in the water for a long time makes the paint look like human skin that has been in the water too long.

At first, I just wanted to quickly put together a simple model. I had no idea it would turn out to be such a hassle. At least I learned a thing or two about working with old decals—and how to get rid of them, if necessary.

Oh that's annoying. Assuming it's acrylic paint it might be just one way in which enamels are still better!

Sorry that doesn't help at all!

The Berna-Decals are very good, as long as they have to stick on a flat surface. They didn't want to wrap around the lower part of the tail-fin-ruder and the aftmost edge of the ruder. My final solution: paint it myself!
My weekend project will end up as a 3 month project 🙈

After painting the tail-ruder by myself and gloss-coating it, attaching the decals I finaly airbrushed the semi-gloss varnish all over and it looks great.
I am only weeks away from the finish 😉

It lasted longer than expected to finish my weekend-project. But here is my little french gem. A kit from 1965 - and I built it like I would have built it in the past. Name it: "Out of the box". And after all it stands proud in the showcase near the Bf 109.
