These images mark the start of MiniArt's LCOC Lorry project. Unsurprisingly for this manufacturer, the build begins with a complex marathon of assembly work involving linkages, frames, push rods, gearbox housings and so on – a task that really tests one's staying power. Even the interim result shown here looks quite nice and has me curious to see the next steps in the build. 🙂

This could possibly be a kit which would lure me into the dark world of 1/35. 🙂

At last I can show you some updates on the LGOC Lorry – even if they're just experiments and "work in progress": The chassis is now finished, so next up are the superstructures – which is actually quite fun after the long slog of endlessly gluing together the linkages! I'm not sure yet whether I'll show one side of the engine compartment open. It isn't absolutely necessary, as the interior isn't that impressive, but on the other hand, it would be quite interesting 🙂

As the sides of the coal wagon are to be decorated with large-scale lettering, I have both filled in the pronounced wood grain and sanded it down slightly. The reason: there is a high probability that the decals will start to 'silver' badly on such a deeply grooved surface. The surface is now in a condition that seems suitable to me for a final coat of yellow, followed by layers of clear varnish. The bonnet is shown half-open – alea jacta est! – 'the die is cast', to quote Caesar somewhat inappropriately 🙂

After applying the – excellent! – decals, it became clear that toning down the wood grain was exactly the right decision: the decals fit perfectly into the texure and look quite convincing, without losing the impression of 'wood' – I'm actually quite happy with the result.

Looks cool! Are you going to make a diorama for it?

Thank you for your kind words, Adam! I'm going to set up a photographic scene in which the coal sacks and coal porters from Dynamo Models – see the project inventory – will play a central role. Dioramas aren't really my thing, but I do enjoy creating photographic scenes around the models.

I'd like to share a few photos of the "Coal and Steel Union" (well, and wood...) that I finished yesterday. The build took me longer than I'd originally expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself: MiniArt really is a master of its craft and, it seems, a specialist in producing multi-part kits brimming with detail. With such an open design as the LGOC Lorry, this level of detail is actually quite useful: nothing disappears into enclosed compartments, literally everything remains open and visible.
The LGOC coal transporter won't be making its final appearance here: in a few days, coal-hauling figures and coal sacks from Dynamo-Models will be delivered, 3D-printed and, it seems, of the very finest quality. Once completed, these will use MiniArt's lorry as their stage.
Thank you for your interest and encouraging feedback, mates!

I was sure that the photos depicted the real thing... Chapeau bas, Roland!

Agree with Robert! That does look real. Very well done! The bed of the lorry looks great but still, for coal, not sure you could have added too much soot or grime on the inside! Excellent work!!!

I appreciate your feedback and I'd like to say thank you, mates! Given that the LGOC chassis was surprisingly versatile and MiniArt offers a range of different uses, this probably won't be the last model based on this amazing vehicle design...

What encouraging feedback – thank you very much, mates!
Well, I won't be staying in the coal business, but I might well add a lorry or two to the fleet...
