These photos – starting with a look back – mark the beginning of the build report on the two Tri-Turbo/Conry DC models. A challenging kit, yet well thought-out and, in principle, quite accurate. The two models will showcase this unique piece in two different paint schemes.

Thanks, lads! I really appreciate your kind words!
Now that the Rotodyne is nearing completion, I am finally freeing up the capacity to get work on these two projects properly underway,

Here too, there are a few new pictures: the two versions of the one-off DC-3 trimotor – even if they don't look it in the photos – are fully assembled, sanded, filled and re-engraved. Next up is... paint!

Nice work!
How does the AA kit compare to the Airfix kit? AA clearly got inspired by Airfix but I wonder how well it builds.

Thank you mates for your positive reactions!
Clement: both kits are a joy to work with; Airfix (unsurprisingly) offers better fit and a higher moulding quality, whereas the AA kit requires a lot of trimming and finishing. Both are similar in the well-thought-out and practical way the parts are designed, which is a delight for the model-maker. Similarly, both kits offer the (rudimentary, yet still) option to display the fuselage interior open. In both kits, I particularly like the option to fit the fuselage windows flush against the fuselage from the outside. So: I wholeheartedly recommend both the Airfix C-47 Dakota/DC-3 and the AA version; they are both excellent kits. If I didn't have any specific requirements – such as the three-engine Conry here – I would opt for Airfix for the sake of simplicity.

The two new photos don't look all that great, I'm well aware of that. However, the touch-ups I'll be doing – mainly with black decal strips and a paintbrush – should add a bit of precision to the look of the Polair aircraft. I'm really looking forward to the decals!

Well, a two-fold conclusion is in sight: the paintwork on both models required a fair bit of precision, and the build itself demanded quite a lot of patience – so I'm all the happier that things are slowly coming together. Next week I'll be able to put the two Three-Turbo versions on their own wheels – or rather, one of them on skis 🙂
