With this overview of the key components of the Huneley project, I'd like to kick off this build! The first challenge was freeing the delicate parts from the dense 3D-printed support structure – once you've managed that, it's very satisfying 🙂
Two figures from EMP3d will form part of the project. These rather nicely made figures are intended to provide a sense of scale and atmospheric context to the scene under construction.

A few new photos show the progress made on the CSS Hunley: in reality, there are a few more rust marks visible on the exterior than in the photos shown here, which suggests that I will be taking the model photos against a different background.

The CSS Hunley is now ready to set sail on its final voyage from my workbench: this morning I managed to take a few photos of the completed submarine! The two figures are intended to give an idea of just how cramped this vessel was; after all, seven men toiled away at the crankshaft mounted in front of them, running lengthways through the hull, whilst an eighth man maintained visual contact with the outside world and steered...
To call the fortunes of this Confederate Navy vessel and its crews 'fateful' would be an understatement: after all, it sank three times with everyone on board, the last time on its successful mission on 17 February 1864, during which it managed to sink the USS Housatonic with its ram torpedo. After that, it was considered lost. In 1995, it was rediscovered, raised, and subjected to archaeological and forensic examination – and is now on display.

Robert, Andreas, Łukasz: thank you for these very kind words!
I was amazed myself at just how many model kits there are for the Hunley! Andreas, are you going to use the Wild 3D moulds, or build the interior yourself?

I plan to use the 1/35 Mikro Mir Hunley and design and print the interior myself. Did that for the Molch and Hecht, too.

Thanks for all your positive feedback, mates!
Andreas, you've got a really impressive sub-collection there – brilliant!
