Well after a week delay due to a couple seems showing up i have the aircraft carrier base all painted. Next up, the acrylic gel to create the waves.

What ended up taking all week was figuring out how to make the oval boat “fenders”.
After a couple failed ideas i landed on some beads that i could modify. 

Then I used plastic wood putty to fill the gap. The toothpick has a purpose btw, these fenders have a rod thru them that the ropes loop thru so i’m planning to cut off the toothpick to make the rod end. 

Then sand with a dremel 1st, 400 grit sanding stick, then 800 grit finish. The 2 lines ended up looking like they belonged there under primer compared to the mold lines on the real thing.

Had a re-do here. This sponson didn’t sit flush with the deck. Off by 3mm at the outer edge. It just had to be fixed so i cut it loose and redid it with black CA.

Then let’s finish this out with another crazy add … i’ve started a foc’sle because the whole bow will be open and it was just going to be too barren ? just in-process but i think it’s looking good so far

So here’s the 3/16” bar i put under the flight deck. JB Weld to set the mounts for the linear motors. In a genius moment i cut 2 of the mounts too short! And JBWeld sags until it dries after a few hours so i had to make supports to keep everything lined up … oh god wait till you see this jury rigged setup 

 

let’s start with one of those “i just can’t stop myself” moments. We should have a hi-lift for the docks! There’s a couple in the pics i have so i went ahead and scratched a few up ? the trumpeter set i have for deck equipment had a few cabs and i added some plastrut to them!

When I did these before they were a total mess. A couple really didn’t fit well on the wheelhouse and that messed up the railings. The difference has been tools and a lesson from a fellow ship modeler. For each project like this just buy a new bottle of CA. The next was a couple tool, a true needle nose pair of tweezers and a sewing needle cut off very close to the solid end. Use the lighter often to burn the CA out of the needle. The CA just wicks right down the part joint and instantly dries.
