[Revell] Audi RS E-Tron GT - WIP

Washed. 

Separated all parts. 

The snap kit for the level has panel lines that are way too wide, I don't know why they're injection molded like this.
Anyway, I deeply engraved panel-line. 

From the moment I first saw the E-tron, I knew I wanted to tweak its design. It looks like this for now, but I'll try modifying it to my liking. 

Since the three parts that make up the face are connected by a single pin, you will need to be careful when modifying it. 

The headlamp reflector part has a protrusion that can be fixed as shown in the photo. 

I cut the pla-plate and added a few more guide protrusions on the left and right sides and attached them. 

Now we can cut out the unnecessary middle part. 

Next, I cut away as much of the inside as possible to clear the blocked part of the bumper(? I don't know what to call this part). 

Then I finished it by trimming it cleanly. 

Next, the upper part of the mask was cut to match the shape of the bumper(? I don't know what to call this part).
The cut out area is where the original Audi ring was. 

I attached line tape on the bonnet for guide. 

Then, I continued to cut by scraping with a panel liner. I only cut up to where the masking tape was. 

I heated it with a heat gun and bent it so that it went down the end. 

Then, cut the indicated area. 

I attached the pla-plate to the cut area. 

When you put the face parts together, a big void is created like this. 

I set up the upper part of the bonnet to act as a front wing, and the wind to pass through it like this. 

Finally, I will block out some areas that should not be visible in this view. 

After cutting the plastic plate to an appropriate size and attaching it, just cut off the protruding parts and trim them. 

There was a very severe shrinkage mark in the marked area, so I filled it in. This time, I used the newly purchased Finishers poly putty, and the quality was excellent. 

Next, I think it would look a bit cooler if there was a front splitter. 

After drawing the shape on the inside... 

I made the basic frame by cutting, folding, bending, and adding appropriately. 

Then, I cut the thin plastic plate into an appropriate size and folded it at about 140 degrees. 

Just put it on what you made earlier and stick it on. That easy 😉 

The front of the lower part was scraped flat using the tool shown in the picture. 

Attatched pla-plate. 

I cut out the marked area to fit the shape of the splitter I made earlier. 

Now just attach the splitter and you're done. 

Since the sides were empty, I made a canard and attached it.
The final appearance will probably look like this.
So, that completes the modifications to this kit. 😉 

I painted primer.
This time I used the newly purchased Kaleido water-based primer (gray, glossy black). 

The panel lines were very wide, but when I scratched them with a 0.15mm panel liner, they became double-layered. There were even 0.15mm sections, as indicated by the light green arrow in the lower right. 

I clean up the panel lines with a single-edged file and sandpaper. I sanded the area around the rear fender, as there was shrinkage. 

I used Kaleido gloss black primer. 

When I painted it, it was smooth and glossy, but after a while, as it started to dry, it became like this. 

However, the other parts were glossy.
Maybe the glossiness varies depending on the condition of the underlying surface. Later, I conducted a separate test, and when I applied this primer after slightly polishing it, it produced a glossier finish than lacquer paint. 

But I need to treat the surface, which already has orange peel.
Because it's a primer, the surface is hard and tough, so sanding it doesn't seem to work well.
If I were to compare the existing surfacer to PS, this feels more like ABS or PVC. 

The shrinkage correction on the rear fender was not enough, so I sanded it a bit more. 

Done.
I used more sandpaper than usual. 

I need to polish the marked areas a bit more, but I'm tired so I decided to stop. 

After washing it, I noticed this stain on the surface. I wondered if it was water-based paint, so it might dissolve in water (though that's unlikely). But when I held it up to the light, thankfully there was no embossing. 

I wasn't happy with the stock wheel design, so I decided to use Harvey Design's Bugatti Chiron wheels.
I knew they were 21-inch wheels, but I was surprised to see that the E-tron also has such large wheels.
Come to think of it, my car (the RS5) has 20-inch wheels, so it's not that surprising.
Back in the 2000s, even 18-inch wheels were considered "big feet." (in Korea) 

Fitting a resin wheel requires appropriate machining.
So I did a rough measurement. 

First, I had to shorten the length of the part that holds the wheel. 

I only had to cut this much. The Tamiya file you see behind look very rough, but when you actually cut them, it's amazing how they make a very smooth surface. 

The disc also had to be scraped deeply with the Danmo tool shown. 

It seems to have deepened by about 2mm. 

Done. I adjusted the entire length like this. 

I did the same thing to the front wheels. 

Painted the marked areas with gloss black. 

Masked. 

I painted with Light Gun Metal 

I took off my mask.
But I forgot that I shouldn't have taken it off yet. 

Anyway, I painted the panel-line. 

Masked again. 

Over coated matt clear. 

There were some areas where I didn't erase them properly when painting the panel lines. Since I overcoated them with clear paint, I can't erase them anymore. All I can do is drybrush them with a similar color to make them less visible. 

After the body painting was finished, so I painted the remaining parts. This time, I used water-based paint too(glossy and matte black). 

The brake discs were also painted with a water-based metallic, and the areas designated as dark gray were painted Vallejo's German Gray with a light gray mixed with . 

Instead of masking tape, masking film was used to mask the windshield. 

I masked it because they told me to paint the bottom surface with aluminum. 

I think this is the end of airbrushing. 

There wasn't much to paint with the brush. 🙂 

The decal quality was very good.
But, I had to attach white stripes to the front and rear reflectors, but since they were plated parts, the details weren't clear, making it difficult to apply. 

I attached the Audi emblem metal sticker I had made before. 

I added a metal sticker to the back too. The RS logo on the left was placed on top of the decal. I scanned the decal and created a design, so the size was perfect. 

Ready to assemble. 

Since it's a snap kit, the drive and power unit details are omitted, so the subassembly was really simple. 

The interior is also designed to be easy to assemble, but once assembled, the details are very nice.

I was putting the side window back on, but it was so tight that I had to apply force. The rear window I was putting on fell off and the paint fell off with it. 

I covered it with Mecha Primer. 

Attached wind shield and roof console. 

The tub is supposed to be attached to the body, but the pins were quite misaligned.
I pulled it in with force and secured it in place, and it was fine.
I think this was intentional, perhaps because it's a snap kit. 

The upper and lower plates were also joined.
The bumper's mask part is designed to act as a hook to secure the lower plate to the nose, but I had already attached it during the modification, so I had a hard time fitting it. 

There is a strange embossing on the side mirror, and I wondered if it was normal, so I googled it, but I couldn't find a mirror like this.
So I made it by cutting out the metal stickers that came in the Tamiya case. 

Done.

Applied audi ring on the forehead. 

Finally, since this project incorporated my custom design elements, I also added my signature sticker (black chrome). 😄 

In the end, All work has been completed. 

The level kit looks really good in proportion after it's completed. 

It's a shame that the bonnet, which was painstakingly remodeled, isn't very noticeable.
Still, adding custom design elements was quite enjoyable.
