With these photos, I'm kicking off a two-part project on Takom's large zeppelins – and 'large' is certainly an apt description... I think it's brilliant to finally have two well-made kits available so I can at last build polystyrene models of these impressive airships! As things stand, the fit and finish and the attention to detail are quite satisfactory.

Interested to see what you can do with this.
Now I know where Tamiya tape goes to die...Roland's bench. 😄

Oh, Roland is building an airship! 👍
And what are you doing this afternoon?

Oh, 1:350 sounds big indeed. If I go for one it will be 1:700. Looking forward to the paint stage.

Hello mates! This afternoon? Well, buying a third Zeppelin, probably... Michael, I guess a Zeppelin is in every scale a model seen not too often! 🙂

...and last but not least, here's an update on the two Zeppelins: I've applied a "latticework" pattern faithful to the original as a base for the subsequent layers of paint; the whole thing is meant to look somewhat translucent and very vibrant.

Never a Pro
That feeling when you already built every airplane and helicopter and now you have to switch to balloons so you don't do tanks

it's just a test balloon – but, well, who knows... 🙂

Creating a realistic Zeppelin exterior is proving more complex with every step than I had imagined 🙂
To depict the radial frames that contribute to the visual appearance, I'm trying to mask them off with narrow Tamiya tape. Next, I'll be spraying a light brown shade over the whole thing: once the tape is removed, the rings should be visible as darker areas. I'm curious to see if it works out the way I've imagined!

I thought the big balloons would look a bit boring, but your painting is making them look great.

I'd like to show you a few new pictures of the P and Q-class Zeppelins, although: the surfaces of the lifting bodies are actually finished; now all that's missing are various gondolas, engines and a whole host of struts of all kinds... I had to make the bracing for the tail fins myself (there were no instructions for this in the kit), as well as the detailing of the gun mount on the upper part of the bow – fortunately, however, there are some quite useful original photographs of this area.
