'68 Dodge Charger R/T - WIP
March 13, 2020The stuff that I needed...
March 13, 2020...to open the doors. Love that work
March 13, 2020
March 13, 2020The material is really thick
March 13, 2020
March 16, 2020So, now the doorpanels are in pieces...
March 16, 2020...and that looks....hmmmm...a lot of holes to be filled
April 28, 2020...in the meantime...
April 28, 2020started the engines. HEMI for one...
April 28, 2020...440 for another one.
April 28, 2020started wiring only for sparkplugs
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020of course in correct firing order 😉
April 28, 2020...i found the "right" way for me.
April 28, 2020After a lot of trying, trash produced door hinges.
April 28, 2020marking the correct fit to glue the hinges
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020thinned the plastik out as as much as possible (ignore the two tubes)
April 28, 2020the final mounting on the body
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020like the original, they had to open inwards
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020
April 28, 2020in my view: perfect
May 7, 2020...to fill the holes from the doors, made a first form out of paper
May 7, 2020overlayed it to 0,5 sheet (keep it lightweight)
May 7, 2020hold the doorpanels in the right place while filling the holes
May 7, 2020
May 7, 2020glued sheet to fit the doorpanels better (later, after painting)
May 7, 2020
May 7, 2020also made some covers to the front part of the doors
May 7, 2020same on the b_pillars. made a form out of paper
May 7, 2020looking good!
May 7, 2020i want to hve the inner side of the side panels even
May 7, 2020
May 7, 2020only some filling needed when glued on
May 7, 2020glued in place
May 7, 2020
May 17, 2020cleaned up the glued parts
May 17, 2020next parts glued. Only to make it look a little bit realistic.
May 17, 2020A nice sideeffect is, that the doors are fitting much better with this parts
May 17, 2020testfit, if the rear bench will fit later (after painting), when the side panel are glued? no!
May 17, 2020before i glued the sidepanels to the floor, i have to instal the rear bench.
So, my first color choice is done. The second one will be black inside - can be painted after the coming work 😉
This step is necessary, because i will sand the doorentry to get as less gapes as possible.
May 17, 2020i sanded the outside from the sidepanels
May 17, 2020started drilling holes thru the b-pillar and doors...
May 17, 2020....
May 17, 2020...glued a magnet into the door...
May 17, 2020...and drilled out the position for the magnet in the B-pillar
May 17, 2020magnets installed
May 17, 2020the same work also on the second Charger.
May 17, 2020
May 17, 2020
May 17, 2020
May 17, 2020perfect!
May 17, 2020Ah, perhaps a question, why the windshields are installed?
To check, how the dashboard is fitting. i had to sand them narrower.
May 20, 2020the sidepanels are sanded and fit perfect in my view - thats what i like!
May 20, 2020
May 20, 2020after that big step of work is nearly done to get on paint of the body, i painted the parts (both Charger similar)
May 20, 2020Made my first decision of paint: bright blue. The second will be...i think white.
May 20, 2020...and cleared the fueltank from inscription from Revell. overseen...
May 20, 2020Looks much better
May 20, 2020and painted some more small parts
May 20, 2020i was in the flow...so i can't get stopping me, wanted to see the chassis (rear) completed.
The front will be attached after completing with the body.
May 20, 2020next step:
Painting the interiors. Outsides are well sanded, flat.
The left will be black, the right one is ready for the bright blue
May 20, 2020...and for before taped white seats.
May 20, 2020Painted doorentrys in bodypaint. Thats working really as i wished. I'm happy with this big step!
May 20, 2020
May 20, 2020...black. ready.
May 30, 2020made the interior details so far ready and painted the doorentries with the body colors
May 30, 2020also i painted the inner side of the bodyparts
May 30, 2020first layer of primer on both
May 30, 2020and the experiment with the vinyl roof is starting. The seen lines are small stripes of BMF i made on the body to have the overlay from the vinyl parts. on the C-pillar i made the same, but three layers of BMF. I hope it will work as expected.
May 30, 2020after the first primer, there are some spots to work on before i can paint the body. of course they are!
May 30, 2020I would have been surprised if it wasn't something to rework.
June 20, 2020both bodys are painted after filler and wet sanding....and some layers of paint.
