build in Port au Prince : Carrack Santa Maria

16 pieces 5 vavue formed sail and a decal sheet. classical heller kit from 1968 heller. lot of ejection pin to deal with with the masts. 

I decided to maque the 3 openings of the access to the gouvernail + upper windows. not sure I will open the middle one yet.  

the both side of the lower deck are not closied in most of the representation of Carrack / Nao of Colomb, therefore I opened it on both side. problem is now we need to create the prolongation of this deck 🙂))
 

same issue here opened I left the 2 pilar there in order to keep the uper deck attached to the lower one.  

representation of the hull varies I chose to follow what was proposed in the kit openings on the lower and upper decks both side.  

I am leaving in locked down city with no access to import no modelkit or hardware store. I have to do with what I have around me. so I did used carton board from packaging to represent the prolongation of the deck.

tried to put some relief but i think it is too way uniform and lighjt brown. see in the next pics from the latest replica.  

 

 

 

 

assembling the hull. not an easy fit need some strength.  

 

dry fitting the last main element of the hull. again not easy to adjust. It is at the end not a big boat if compare it with the superglue...  

building the 'castle' : 2 pilars in streched sprue to receive the floor made in a plastic card and painted and on its left the 'wall' cut in a yogourt pot (very flexible) to joint the deck and the castle.  

wall glued in place.  

added the floor and trimmed the wall.  

The size and position of the castle look plausible compared to some reference (a lot of variation as there is no plan or representation of the santa Maria).  

uge problem ! the opening is wide and the beam and the stairs are much more visible than I tought. they stop in the middle in between the 2 decks and it look odd. I need to do something about it or I redo the wall or I cut the beam. 

 

 

 

 

used yogurt pot plastic to make the junction between the main deck and the foreward castle.
