1/24 Vintage Cola Vending Machine - WIP

This is a reference image, a photo of the vending machine included in AMT's 1/25 Chevy Cameo Pickup assembled. 

 

I did a sketch first. 

I worked on it differently from the first sketch, but I created the basic form anyway. 

I sanded various edges to make them round. 

I applied putty. 

I was bored waiting for the putty to harden, so I glued two 1.2mm pla-plate for the front console. 

I sanded it down to shape it like this. 

And I glued it to a 0.3mm pla-plate. 

Then, I sanded it to shape it. 

The putty did not harden, possibly because the hardener ratio was incorrect, so I removed it all and wiped off the residue with lacquer thinner. 

This time, I mixed in just a little hardener and applied it again. 

Fortunately, it cured well, so I even finished sanding it. 

While trimming, I was reminded of an eraser, so I took a picture with it just for fun. 

Next, after sketching to add panel lines, I applied guide tape. 

The front door seemed to have rounded corners, so I placed an etching template and drew lines with a carbide scriber. 

Then, I applied masking tape as a guide to draw additional rectangles inside.
Since it wasn't guide tape for scriber, the panel lines didn't come out as straight. 🙁 

This time, after preparing two with square holes punched like this... 

I trimmed the outside to make it this shape. 

I scrapped a deep hole in the front panel. 

And I carved an aluminum rod to make a handle. 

I plan to arrange the things I just made like this. 

After cutting a metal rod of suitable thickness... 

I think it would work if I attached it at the hinge location. 

Next, after drawing a handle on the metal plate... 

I cut, trimmed, and polished it to make a handle. 

I painted Vallejo Mecha Primer Black. 

After applying GSI #500 Surfacer, I sanded it. 

GSI White Surfacer.
I sanded it and didn't wipe off the dust completely, so it remained on the surface. 

After smoothing the surface, I painted it Gloss White. 

Masked for for glossy black painting. 

I drew a design and printed it as a decal.
Since the hand holding the cola bottle could not be expressed in a bright color by attaching it over the red background, I printed it together with the red background color. 

I have never printed and pasted such a large area before, so I am not sure if it will work well. 

I attached them all.
Since there was no film layer over the printing ink, the ink peeled off when attaching to curved surfaces, so I had to use all four printed copies. 

After coating with UV Cut Clear, Super Clear was coated three more times. 

I sanded it after it was sufficiently dry. 

And then I polished it. 

Painted panel-line. 

Assembly started with the hinge.
 

And door knob. 

Next is the assembly of the control panel. 

And attached it to main. 

Done. 

I'm posting one more finished photo because I felt a bit regretful. 

I built it according to the actual specifications, but it looks smaller than the figure.
I wondered if the figure was big, so I checked other figures, but the situation was similar.
I’m starting to think that perhaps it’s small because it’s an old machine.
